There are three types of navigation voices:

• Standard voices
  
  Standard voices come pre-installed on every TomTom device and can be downloaded for free via TomTom HOME.
  
  Click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc. > Voices > Recorded Voices in HOME to select free standard voices that have been created by TomTom or that have been shared by other TomTom users.

• Computer voices
  
  Computer voices use text-to-speech technology to read street names, incoming text messages, weather information, etc...
  
  If your device supports computer voices you can click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc. > Voices > Computer Voices in HOME to download and install free computer voices.

What are computer voices (text-to-speech)?

• Premium voices
  
  Premium voices have been recorded by celebrities and are available for purchase via TomTom HOME.

Instructions for purchasing and installing premium voices

	Follow these instructions if you are using NAVIGATOR 6: Start TomTom HOME and login In the bottom left corner of HOME, click Login to log into your MyTomTom account. Then enter your MyTomTom username and password. Connect your device Connect your TomTom device, PDA or card reader/writer* to your computer. Switch on your device. HOME checks for the latest updates. If any are available, click OK to download. Note: If your voice is not listed, press Cancel and then do one of the following: Windows: Press Ctrl + F8 Macintosh: Press Command + Ctrl + F8 Install your voice After downloading your updates you are asked to install the downloaded items on your device. Click Yes to have all items installed automatically. HOME installs your voice on your device. Manual installation: If you choose No you can install your downloaded items on your device later. All downloaded TomTom services are stored on your computer. To install downloaded TomTom services, click Install to TomTom from the HOME Options menu, and then click My Computer. Your downloaded services are listed in the center column of HOME. Select all items you want to install by checking the boxes next to the content, and then click the green Install button to install the selected services on your device. Disconnect your TomTom device or PDA / card reader/writer Eject your device from HOME by clicking the eject button in HOME, and then disconnect your device from your computer. You can now select your new voice in the Change preferences menu.

1. Connect your TomTom device to your computer and launch TomTom HOME.
   
   
2. To purchase a premium voice click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras, etc. > Voices > Recorded Voices.


3. Browse or search for the voice you want. Click Buy to purchase a voice.
   
   
   
   


4. To download your voice at anytime, click Update my device in the HOME menu.
   
   
   
5. Check the box next to the items you want to download and then click Update and install.
   
   
   
   
   HOME downloads the selected items...
   
   
   
   HOME then installs the selected items on your device.
   
   
   
   
6. Click Device > Disconnect Device in the HOME menu. You can then disconnect your device from your computer.
   
   
7. To select a voice on your device, tap Change preferences > Voice preferences (on some devices) > Change voice.
